Bicentennial License Plate Tenor Banjo

Back during the 1976 bicentennial, Michigan issued this beautiful license plate with the stars and stripes. I was going to school at Michigan State at the time and therefore had a plate like this on my Chevy Nova SS. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the plate (or the car), but I found one on eBay that had my wife's initials on it.

I used a BC Gitty license plate box lightly stained to make this Tenor Banjo. The neck is a 24" scale bolt on from MGB Guitars. I strung it up with BC Gitty Octave Mandolin strings to tune it to the standard Irish G D A E tuning and it sounds great.

I amplified it with a "ghosted" Gittybucker pickup installed beneath the license plate.
